We also look forward to supporting your business in combating fraudulent attempts. Let’s dig down a little more into some fraudulent activities that can occur to anyone as its awareness can save you from bankruptcy.

  1. Spoofing: These attacks are used to deceive or trick users by pretending to be another person over email, phone, and website. Website spoofing refers to the act of creating a fake website with the intent of performing fraud. Phishers use logos, graphics, and even the code of real websites to make fake sites appear legitimate. They can also fake the URL in your browser’s address bar and the Padlock icon at the bottom of the right-hand corner. Even emails can be faked to trick anyone of you into believing that they have been sent by a trusted sender. This will lead to sensitive information being shared.

  2. Phishing: It's a worldwide problem that banks face. It's an attempt to steal your banking information. Phishing can be described as an email that looks like it is from a bank or other popular website and asks for confidential information such as user id, transaction password, One Time Password (OTP), Unique Reference No. (URN), etc.

  3. Spear Phishing: This is a targeted phishing effort through an email that appears not to have come from a trusted source but has a context personalized /personalized. It often refers to current projects or developments within the company.

  4. Vishing: A fraudster tries to steal your confidential information over a telephone call. User id, transaction password, OTP, Card PIN, URN, and Grid card values, CVV, or any personal parameters like Mother’s maiden name, Date of birth, Aadhaar. Fraudsters claim to represent banks on the pretext of helping the customer for Aadhaar Updation/KYC/Limit Enhancement/Refund of amount/Verification/Card Activation/Card Issuance, etc. They will trick customers into giving their personal and financial information over the phone.

Similarly, while browsing freeware softwares on the Internet, customers are asked to verify the authenticity of links and contact details. There are many fake contacts available on the internet and fraudsters may take advantage of the situation and misguide the customers to steal Credit/Debit/NetBanking credentials through Vishing calls or through Vishing Remote access by taking control over the mobile/system. To prevent frauds, customers are asked to be cautious with spams.

  5. Smishing: This fraud is a combination of short message service (SMS) and phishing. This is the act of sending an email to someone with the intention of obtaining personal data that could be used to commit identity theft. This is when fraudsters send SMS messages rather than email. A scammer may send a message that reads "You have won lottery ticket of the season. Visit this website to claim your lottery." You may be directed to a site asking for your personal information by clicking on the link.

  6. SIM Swap: Your mobile phone can be used as a banking channel. Your mobile phone can be used to receive account-related alerts as well as the One Time Password (OTP), which is required to perform banking transactions and make financial inquiries. If you don't take some precautions, criminals can intercept these alerts and exchange your original SIM with a duplicate SIM from your service provider to attempt to commit fraud.
